OVERDRIVE / DISTORTION pedals / Questions Regarding D2 & R2 Pedals
« Last post by mflemmer2 on December 13, 2016, 04:33:11 am »
Happy Holidays to all! I'm considering getting 2 AMT pedals, for 2 different shades of high gain. I use the clean channel of my Mesa/Boogie Studio Preamp as a foundation for pedals (basically Fender black face tone), into a Peavey 6L6 power amp. I've decided on the P2, but also want one of these three: D2, R2 or E2 (please, no R2D2 jokes). I've listened to online demos, most notably the ones by Brett Kingman. However, I'm hoping someone else that has actually compared these can chime in. I want the second pedal to provide more crushing lows and chugging rhythms as a contrast to the P2. I'm torn between the D2 and R2. The R2 seems a bit more defined in the lows, and better for solos, while still sounding massive. The D2 sounds like it might have a bit more gain, and be even more beefy/brutal in the lows, but I wonder if it tends toward muddiness. Between these two, which has the most gain? The heaviest lows? The best definition, especially in the lows? Does either tend to be fuzzy or muddy? I understand that the D2 and R2 are going to be more loose and "saggy" than the P2, similar to their related amps. Any advice is appreciated. The E2 sounds a bit too close to the P2, but with less gain, and the B2 sounds a little too dark, based on demos I've heard. Thanks in advance!

Okay - send/return is described as xs10/xs11 but anyway - issue's solved!
Thanx so much, now everything's fine again.

Hi there!

I got some output signal problems.
If send/return is not used (empty jacks) the output signal's suddenly very, very quiet - almost muted.
But if I use the effects loop, or just plug in a cable from send directly to return, everything's fine and sound's in regular volume.
This behavior's not normal, or am I off the wall  :o ?!? Don't know, if there's something broken, or any jumper in wrong position?
Does anybody has issues like that? Thanks for help!

I think the problem is with the one of the sockets (send or return) does not work well. There is no contact (probably) when nothing is plugged into a socket. See attachment

Thanks for the replies Dogman and Alexander.

I actually used the editor that someone made for the Pangaea,
I think I downloaded it at the same time I downloaded the latest
firmware update for the Pangaea.

I was able to use it to change the volumes of each preset on the
computer, it's a lot easier than doing it on the unit itself.
 ;)

You cannot change the levels for all IRs at once. You have to change level of each preset.

Hi Ccouch,

to my knowledge, changing the volume of the individual patches is the only way to do it.
I got the same problem as IRs from different providers seem to be all over the map level-wise.
But as I only use a handful of favorites and not 100 I don´t feel its too big of a problem.

Cheers!

Thanks for getting back Dogman I appreciate it!

I changed my setup and now have my Pangaea running off the extra outlet
on the back of my pedalpower, so it's running at 12 volts.

No problem, and very nice setup that you got going!
And cool that you have 12V available for the Pangaea.
I´m still going on 9V for me and still no problems.

With my Pangaea I've been using only 3Sigma Audio IR's. They are really consistent
volume wise from IR to IR.
However, I need to lower the volume of the Pangaea's output across all of them by
the same amount.
Is there an easier way to do this than going in and lowering each volume of each
preset separately 100 times on the Pangaea!!??

Thanks for any help.
